“Following the recent increase in the cases of COVID-19 pandemic, driven by the Delta variant, there is the urgent need to rekindle the fight against the pandemic by strictly enforcing all the COVID-19 protocols in the Region”. This was noted by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah during a press briefing organised by the Regional security Council (REGSEC) on August 3rd, 2021.
According to the Regional Minister, the Ashanti Region has recorded severer active cases leading to hospitalization and deaths. As at 31st July 2021, active cases had increased to 1,252 from 1,217 in 27th July. Deaths had also increased from 297 to 304 during the same period.
Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah indicated that, in line with the president’s 26th COVID-19 update on 25th July, 2021, all MMDA’s are directed to ensure mandatory wearing of face mask, provide veronica buckets and sanitizers at public places, undertake public education as well as enforce all restriction on public gathering.
Drivers of public transports within the Region were particularly encouraged to ensure strict adherence of the wearing of face mask by passengers otherwise “such drivers together with their mates and the unmasked passenger would be arrested”. “The security agencies would be deployed all over the Region to ensure enforcement of the COVID-19 protocols”, the Regional Minister added.
