The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah in a meeting with a group of investors from the United States of America held on 2 August, 2023, at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, laid bare the numerous investment opportunities within the Region that investors can take advantage of.
The group of investors from the US with varried investment interest spanning from Infrastructure, manufacturing, eco-tourism, Agriculture, banking among others was led by the Consulate General of New York, Hon. Daniel Kingsly Atta Boafo.
The group was led on a tour to some investment sites in the Region. These are Bosomtwi lake site, Boris B farm, site for Kumasi airport city, site for the construction of a multistorey car park as well as a site for the construction of a modern hotel and a conference facility.
Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah indicated that the Bosomtwi lake site has rich potential of becoming an international eco-tourist site with the necessary investment. The construction of modern hotel facilities as well as investment in a cable car is feasible due to the topography of the area. He noted further that the view has been suggested from various quarters of the need to develop the forest in the lake area into a zoo because that will mean the animals will have the luxury of living in their natural environment while at the same time tourist will be able to view them when a cable car is constructed over the valley.
According to the Ashanti Regional Minister, there are alot of investment opportunities as well in the infrastructural sector since the Region has the vision of developing an airport city to beautify the airport area as well as an international conference facility. According to the Minister, such a conference centre is needed since the Region will now be open to host other international conferences. The current situation is that most international conferences are held in Accra since a conference facility of international standard is not available in the Region.
Further, the vehicular congestion in the central business district of Kumasi is mainly due to the absence of a dedicated car park with the appropriate capacity. Thus, the plan is to put up a multistorey car park with enough capacity to accommodate cars that will park in order to decongest the CBD.
The Consulate General of New York, Hon. Daniel Kingsly Atta Boafo, who led the team indicated that the idea is to make sure that practical steps are taking after the visit to bring investment into the Region.
Mr. David Shamouelian, one of the investors noted that he was impressed with the investment opportunities and expressed the hope that further consultations will be made so that they can take advantage of the investment opportunities available.
