The Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council held a meeting for the inauguration of the Ashanti Regional Engineering Co-ordinating Team on Tuesday May 12, 2022 at the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council.
Inaugurating the committee comprising of members from Urban Roads, Ghana Highway Authority, Department Of Feeder Roads, Surveying and Mapping Division, Lands Valuation, LUSPA, EPA, Forestry Commission, Ghana Water Company Limited, GRIDCO, ECG, National Communication Authority, Ghana Railways Development Authority, Ghana Institute of Engineering, Ghana Institute of Planners, Ghana Institute of Surveyors, as well as Telecommunications Companies, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah, stated in his address that, the establishment of the Engineering Co-ordinating Teams at the National, Regional and MMDA level, arose out of the need to promote coordination in the utilization of road reservations by Utility and Infrastructure Agencies following the increase in developmental activities in the two sectors. According to the Regional Minister, this need necessitated the development of a Policy Guidelines which set out issues of coordination that should be followed by the Road, Land-Use and Utility Agencies as well as other Agencies in the management of road reservations.
He reiterated that lack of management of road reservations have resulted in the springing up of challenges in areas such as the Aputuogya Road, as well as pylons located within roads which needs to be relocated at high cost, destruction of roads due to infrastructure developments within road reservations and under high tension pylons. He moreover confirmed that all Stakeholder Institutions represented should embrace the application of the procedures provided in the Policy Guideline, to create harmony and ensure sanity in the use of road reservations to achieve the desired objective.
