KNUST SEEKS COLLABORATION WITH OHLGS TO TRAIN WORK-READY GRADUATES

Accra -Tuesday October 12, 2022: Head of Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur and his management team has engaged a group of experts in academia from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on an industrial collaboration that seeks to ensure work-ready graduates for the world of work.

The initiative forms part of KNUST’s efforts to bridge skills gap between academia and industry in order to create varied career advancement for students.

Prof. Dadson Awunyo-Vitor who led the team informed that the visit was to interact with the management of the OHLGS to understand the Service’s capacity needs to inform possible interventions. Some possible areas of collaboration they hope to have with the LGS include co-lecturing with practitioners from the Service, internship programmes for students, placement of National Service personnel, and general recruiting of skilled staff.

The team recommended the need for an industrial liaison committee to determine the process for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to guide the collaboration.

The Director of Administration, Ms. Golda Asante, Director of Human Resource Management (HRM), Mr. Peter Asseim Asante, and the Director of Management and Technical Services (MTSD), Mrs. Lilian Baeka were nominated to represent the OHLGS on the committee.

Dr. Arthur in a brief remark commended the team for the initiative and noted that management of the OHLGS is in full support. He assured that actions would be taken expeditiously to ensure that the collaboration is successful.

Present at the meeting were the Chief Director of the OHLGS, Mr. James Oppong Mensah, and some management members.
