Winners of Ghana Science and Technical Explorer Prize (GSTEP) challenge 2022, from 4 Garrison Education Unit on 17 April 2023, called on the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah.
Among the team led by LT Col. Z.B.V. Akatey, was the ‘prototype Uaddara Basic School’, dubbed the ‘Genius six’, an all-female team from 4 Garrison Education Unit that were crowned the winners of the GSTEP challenge.
The team constructed an Illuminated Child Road Safety Device (I.C-RSD), made up of a racket form stop sign, siren, and safety reflectors with dustbins to assist school children cross the road safely.
Priscilla Osei Tutu, a member and the leader of the all-female team (Genius six) explained the features of the prototype and demonstrated how it is used to the Ashanti Regional Minister.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah indicated that the innovative project was spot on as it runs on solar energy which means it will not be reliant on electric power thereby making it much more reliable. He noted that besides helping pupils to cross roads safely the dustbin affixed to the device could be a game changer in instilling good sanitary practice among pupils as well as promote good waste management.
The Ashanti Regional Minister made a cash donation to the school and encouraged them to be more innovative to make the Region Proud.
